Chet Faker shares intimate new single Inefficient Love

A quiet storm: Chet Faker returns with Inefficient Love

Chet Faker has released his latest single Inefficient Love via BMG, marking a tender return for one of Australia’s most acclaimed singer-songwriters. The track follows Far Side of the Moon and reveals a rawer side of the ARIA-winning artist.

With stripped-back guitar and softly layered vocals, Inefficient Love reflects on emotional vulnerability and the imbalance between love given and received. The single sees Chet Faker — the creative alias of musician, songwriter and producer Nick Murphy — open up more than ever before.

Speaking about the new track, Nick Murphy said, “Inefficient Love was one of those songs that beamed in from somewhere. I was sitting on my couch at home watching a show and started playing the guitar and just played the whole song in about 5 minutes. It feels old and I love it.”

Since rising to prominence in 2011, Chet Faker has carved a unique space in Australian music. His debut EP Thinking in Textures secured Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Best Independent Single/EP at the AIR Awards. A Super Bowl commercial appearance and chart-topping 2014 debut album Built on Glass soon followed, featuring the hits Gold and Talk Is Cheap. The latter reached number one on Triple J’s Hottest 100 and helped Murphy claim five ARIA Awards.

Murphy has continued to expand his creative output, releasing critically acclaimed projects under both Chet Faker and his own name. His 2021 full-length Hotel Surrender featured the standout singles Low and Feel Good, debuting in the ARIA Top 20.
