EMMMA unveils new single Whiplash | Manchester gig in October

Alt-pop artist EMMMA shares her introspective new single Whiplash, ahead of her biggest UK tour to date — including a Manchester gig supporting Pale Waves at the O2 Ritz.

EMMMA returns with her latest single Whiplash, a hazy, synth-laced reflection on post-breakup longing and emotional disorientation. The track follows Burning Bridges and Wednesday’s Child, offering a slower, more intimate tone, as she prepares for the release of her second EP.

Written alongside Alex Casnoff (Zella Day, Sorcha Richardson) and produced by Ben Wylen (Dan Caplen), Whiplash channels ’80s-influenced alt-pop while lyrically confronting the ache of wanting someone who’s already gone.

Speaking about the single, EMMMA said, “This song comes to me after my relationship, and I’ve found myself searching for something new. The chorus saying ‘Why don’t you want me the way that I want you to?’ encapsulates my feelings of wanting to feel wanted by someone. I see all of my friends in beautiful relationships and I have found myself wanting something more for myself — knowing I’m talking to someone who is wrong for me, but still wanting it anyway.”

A live version of Whiplash — featuring a choreographed aesthetic — appeared as part of the four-song EMMMA LIVE set, alongside Burning Bridges, Wednesday’s Child and unreleased track Cards.

EMMMA is now building towards her second EP, this time themed around the realisation that self-worth is an ongoing journey and struggle – and that self-worth was truly challenged after the break-up of a long-term relationship.

Born in Westport, Connecticut, EMMMA’s sound blends lush alt-pop with narrative-driven lyricism. Influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Carole King, her debut EP Secondary Character explored identity and self-realisation. Her upcoming EP expands this vision, addressing the challenges of self-worth following the end of a long-term relationship.

EMMMA joins Pale Waves on tour throughout October, with a Manchester date confirmed at the O2 Ritz.
