Having been seen by almost one million people during its run in London’s West End at the Theatre Royal, the smash hit Shrek The Musical is set to take to Manchester’s Palace Theatre from 2nd December 2014 until Sunday 11th January 2015, in what is part of its first ever national tour.

Based upon the Oascar-winning DreamWorks Animations film, Shrek The Musical’s cast is set to include Dean Chisnall who continues in his role as the swamp-dwelling ogre Shrek, as well as Faye Brookes (who wowed Manchester audiences in the role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical back in 2011) as Princess Fiona, Idriss Kargbo as the wisecracking sidekick Donkey and Gerard Carey as the villainous Lord Farquaad.

Shrek The Musical on tour is set to be directed by 2012 Laurence Olivier Award Winner Nigel Harman, himself as former star of the West End production in the role of Lord Farquaad, a display which scooped him the 2012 award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical.  Nigel Harman commented “I am delighted to be returning to Shrek as its director. This show is very special to me with its dizzying blend of great characters, a hilarious script and sublime music. This production is visually stunning, and the story has the magic ingredient of moving at great pace while still being surprisingly intimate. In short, there was no way I was going to say no to the challenge of realising the production for the UK and Ireland.  I really can’t wait to take this show on the road!

The success of Shrek The Musical clearly continues to delight DreamWorks, whose Cheif Creative Officer, Bill Damaschke, said “We are thrilled that Shrek and his fairy-tale friends will be heading out on tour across the UK and Ireland and delighted that our very own Nigel Harman will be directing Shrek the Musical on the road. It has been such a joy to bring this loved story to life and we can’t wait for families up and down the country to experience their beloved swamp-dwelling ogre, Princess Fiona, Donkey and all their pals live on stage, as so many have on Broadway and in the West End.

Shrek The Musical will be performed at the Palace Theatre Manchester from 2nd December 2014 until 11th January 2015 with ticket prices £19.50 – £70 plus booking fee.
