Acclaimed cabaret night Pen:Chant will host another night of local, national and international comedy, spoken word and music at Gorilla on Wednesday 21 September.

Hosted by award-winning writer and performer Ben Mellor, Pen:Chant is a night of eclectic, alternative cabaret programmed and hosted by award-winning writer and performer Ben Mellor.  Touring national and international fringe festivals Pen:Chant meet amazing artists from spoken word, live music, comedy, cabaret and performance scenes and bring them to Manchester.

This month, Pen:Chant host MOBO-winning and Mercury-nominated Award-winning alto-saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch.  Soweto is one of the most exciting and versatile young musicians in both the British jazz and hip hop scenes.

Soweto has garnered acclaim on both sides of the Atlantc. His skills as a hip hop MC and producer have garnered him recognition in the urban music world: having supported the likes of KRS ONE, Dwele and TY, and being championed by the likes of Mos Def, Rodney P and BBC 1-Xtra’s Twin B.

September’s line up will also feature a rare Manchester appearance from ‘World and UK Beatbox Champion’ Bellatrix. Vocalist, bass player and beatboxer, Bellatrix is currently working on her hotly anticipated debut EP. As well as performing solo, Bellatrix performs with independent power-house girl band The Boxettes and psychedelic hip-hop outfit Dizraeli and The Small Gods.

Completing the Pen:Chant line up will be Multi-award winning not shit sketch group, Gein’s Family Giftshop who will be applying their warped world vision to the hilarious subject matter of abject misery, and human tragedy.

Since 2013 Pen:Chant have presented some of the best local, national and international acts including cult-comedian Marcel Lucont, YouTube battle-rap sensation Mark Grist, and award-winning folk singer Kirsty McGee. As well as showcasing established acts, Pen:Chant provides a platform for local emerging talent through open mic slots and workshops.

Pen:Chant takes place on 21 September 2016 at Gorilla.
