Australian synth-pop duo Monarch return to Manchester during a run of UK gigs ahead of the release of new album Mid:Night.
Mid:Night is due for release on 1 February via Warner Music and includes the successful singles Hula Hoop 8000 and Mid:Night which have already amassed more than 5 million streams.
The gig marks a return to Manchester for the London based Monarchy who previously headlined at the Deaf Institute.
Mid:Night comprises eight vocal-led tracks exploring themes of sex, love, lust, conflict and classism. Speaking about the album, and it’s playful, catchy sound, the duo explored “We got bored of being moody and serious, and wanted to have some fun. In a way, I feel we’ve gone full circle, and we’ve gone back to the sound of our very first track from 2009. Kind of slightly French, synth wave, cruisy, a night track. This album really gets that sound, and I think fine tunes it. I like that it’s super short as well. It’s like a nice moment, that doesn’t overstay its welcome.”
Monarchy have also recently revealed their latest video Back To The Start, the opening track to Mid:Night. The album promises a mix of electro-tinged pop, synth-led funk, 70’s disco and smooth 80’s.
Monarchy (Ra Black and Andrew Armstrong) released their debut album in 2011 after meeting in London in 2009.
