Manchester based KNT Danceworks, which is housed at The Dancehouse Theatre on Oxford Road, is set to help a new generation of dancers find their way on to the stage by launching a number of Summer School events over the next few weeks for children aged 3-8 years.

The Summer Schools are being run by KNT’s Principal, Karen Sant, who started dancing at the age of eight, quickly being awarded a scholarship at the Cecchetti School of Ballet in Tring, London before being awarded a scholarship to study full time at the Northern Ballet School in 2004, from where she graduated as a soloist into a small contemporary ballet company before focusing on teaching.   Karen comments “Our children’s summer schools provide a fantastic opportunity for your child to learn in a fun and stimulating environment. Dance classes will improve posture, encourage physical growth and development, as well as promoting a healthier lifestyle. Children’s dance lessons are a great way for your kids to learn important social skills and discover new ways to interact and communicate with their friends.”

The Summer School days each have a theme around which they will be based:-

Monday 28th July – Ballet Summer School – Alice in Wonderland

Wednesday 30th July – Ballet Summer School – Swan Lake

Wednesday 6th August – Jazz/Street Dance Summer School – The Lion King

Wednesday 13th August – Ballet Summer School – Cinderella

Monday 18th August – Older Girls Summer School (10 – 16 years)

Wednesday 20th August – Jazz/Street Dance Summer School – Street Dance The Movie

The days will include warms ups, classes, arts and crafts (drawing/making costumes/props), games, rehearsals and a short performance for parents which will give children a taste of the stage-life!

The idea is clearly one which excites Karen, who has also taught ballet at Salford University and been invited to teach workshops by the likes of Manchester City College and the Conway Centre in Anglesey, as well as teaching the principals and soloists of the Chinese National Ballet. Karen also runs dance classes for professional dancers – “I am thoroughly looking forward to the upcoming dance summer schools” she says. “All children (students and non-students of KNT Danceworks) are welcome to join us in these fun filled days of dance, games and arts & crafts.”

Places on the KNT Summer School days can be booked by texting/calling 07783 103 037 or emailing info@kntdanceworks.co.uk. Places are limited to 15 children per session and are booking up quickly. No dancing experience is required. Cost £20 per day with a £10 non-refundable deposit paid in advance). The Summer School sessions will take place at Sporting Therapy, 65/67 Lever Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester, M1 1FL
