Manchester singer and songwriter Ben Williams will release his new Christmas single Time To Go Home on 6 December.

The folky Christmas song takes inspiration from Joni Mitchell and features acoustic fingerpicking, strings and a stunning piano part.

The track follows a period of learning a few Joni Mitchell songs for inspiration and getting to grips with the tuning she plays in.  “I left my guitar in that tuning”, he explains.  “The next time I picked it up I started writing ‘Time to Go Home’. It’s in the same tuning as ‘I Don’t Know Where I Stand’ from the ‘Clouds’ album. The chorus of ‘Time To Go Home’ references ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ and suggests that it’s time to stop working so hard as Christmas approaches. There are some more playful lyrics in the verses about snowmen, Mary Poppins and changing the bin, because it’s important to remember to do that at Christmas.”

The track, recorded by Mark Lewis, features a string arrangement from Alan Keary.

Ben Williams has released three albums, his debut Who Do You Thing You Are? in 2015, followed by 2017’s Put It On Ice and the stripped back Minimum of Fuss in 2019.  He will release his new album Under The Radar in 2023.

Ben Williams will release Time To Go Home on 6 December 2022.  It is available for pre-save now.
