LA based r’n’b singer Tinashe is set to perform at Manchester’s Gorilla on 4th March 2015. The announcement comes on the day her debut solo album Aquarius is released.
A solo career and the release of her debut album, though, is by no means the 21 year old’s first forray into showbusiness. In fact she’s practically a seasoned veteran already, making her acting debut at the age of five and spending her teens in girl group The Stunners. It’s as a soloist, though, that she has really been noticed. With The Stunners splitting when she was just 18, she focussed on recording and producing music in her own home studio and it was a series of self-produced mix tapes which caught the imagination and earned critical acclaim for their dark, complex, layered sounds.
Following collaborations with Frank Ocean, Ryan Hemsworth, A$ap Rocky and SchoolBoy Q on her sensational debut single 2 On, Tinashe’s debut album of sulty soul and seductive r’n’b has arrived. With a strong feeling of retro r’n’b, but with a twist as synth and percussion come into play. The influences of Janet Jackson, Aaliyah and Sade can certainly be felt and help to make Tinashe’s music all the more captivating and satisfying.
Tickets for Tinashe performing at Gorilla on Wednesday 4th March 2015 go on sale on Wednesday 8th October priced £11.
