Manchester Academy will host the 19 members of the London African Gospel Choir, together with their band, as they perform Paul Simon’s Graceland in full.
The show comes 30 years after the release of Paul Simon’s most commercially successful album ever, one which became a global phenomenon. After coming across a bootleg cassette of South African township music in the early 80s, Paul Simon was totally smitten by the infectious & irresistible rhythms… He travelled to Johannesburg, spending two weeks there, recording with the absolute cream of South African musicians.
That epic session became Graceland and saw the performer win Grammys in 1987 and 1988, selling 5 million copies in the US and a further 2.5 million in the UK, spawning the hit singles Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes, The Boy in the Bubble and You Can Call Me Al.

Now the London African Gospel Choir are set to perform the album in two special shows in Manchester and Norwich, after a series of sell out and highly lauded performances at London’s Jazz Cafe.
