Sunbirds have announced three UK shows including a Manchester gig at the Deaf Institute for February 2022.

The band is the new project from Beautiful South’s co-founder Dave Hemingway who joins South colleague Phil Barton, singer and violinist Laura Wilcockson and drummer Marc Parnell in the band.

Sunbirds released their debut album Cool To Be Kind in November 2020 via independent label Nectar Records, signalling their arrival and new sound.  The album was produced by Teo Miller and captures truthful, open-hearted, funny and painfully honest songs.

The band combines traditional American roots music, combined with outbursts of guitar.  As Dave Hemingway explains, “Although a lot of the songs have an Americana feel they’re still about life in England. You’re going to feel a bit daft singing about pick-up trucks and low down honky-tonks when you live in Yorkshire.”

“Now we’re Sunbirds we’re free to dig a little deeper into ourselves” says Phil Barton, “having said that, there’s no exact science here, we’re just enjoying ourselves and expressing whatever we want whether it’s about love, longing, depression or Gary Lineker’s crisp adverts.”
