Jules Buckley has shared his brand new take on the Manzel hit Space Funk which features on upcoming album The Breaks.

Space Funk follow Jules Buckley’s recent single X Breaks which also features on the Grammy Award winning conductor, composer and orchestrator’s upcoming album.  The album itself is a collaboration with Chris Wheeler and The Heritage Orchestra and Ghost Note.  It is due for release on 3 September.

Space Funk was originally released in 1997 and sampled heavily over the years by artists from Grandmaster Flash through to Childish Gambino.  Jules Buckley’s reinvention of the track finds The Heritage Orchestra providing live instrumentation and Ghost-Note lending breaks and drum fills.

Jules Buckley explains, “Sampled by the likes of Childish Gambino and hip hop royalty Eric B. & Rakim, ‘Space Funk’ is one of the breaking scene’s absolutely deepest cuts. Heritage Orchestra and Ghost-Note are on the money here with the Manzel classic. Enjoy!”

Joined by modern artists such as four-time world DJ champion Mr Switch, the acclaimed saxophonist Kamasi Washington, the jazz/funk pianist, solo artist and former Snarky Puppy member Cory Henry, and Heavenly Recordings duo Mattiel, Buckley has achieved an unusual feat with The Breaks: recording and orchestrating live instrumental takes on pieces of music renowned for being sampled.  In the album Buckley pays tribute to the percussive pillar of the hip hop sound.
