Django Django will bring 2023 to a close with a run of dates including a Manchester gig at New Century Hall.
The Manchester gig is one of four UK dates they are headlining in support of their concept album Off Planet, which features the lead single Complete Me with Self Esteem.
The tour dates follow a huge tour of Australia for Django Django and a string of European shows. They will be supported by Low Island.
Django Django’s fifth album Off Planet also features the genre-bending track Black Cadillac. The track is accompanied by a video from director James Hankin which explores Off Planet’s inspirations of ufology to a backdrop of nostalgic fish-eye visuals.
Speaking about the video, Django Django drummer Dave Maclean said, “I came up with this idea out of the blue one day, probably in a bit of a daydream when listening back to the song. I approached Hankin to help me bring it to life and he’s done a great job directing it, managing to capture the surreal dream-like atmosphere brilliantly.”
Whilst directed James Hankin added, “I’ve been following the Djangos pretty much since day one and always thought it would be cool to make a video together at some point and here we are many years later messing about dressing up as cowboys and aliens and drinking out of shoes. It felt like a very natural thing to be doing actually.”
Off Planet was released in four parts, each representing a different ‘planet’. The album concept was the work of Django Django co-founder and producer Dave Mclean who sought ‘a way to go beyond’ with new voices, rhythms, experimentation, finding a new identity for the band.
