Sunday 9 November:

Royal Northern College of Music – Saxophone Day.  The RNCM celebration of all things saxophone is in it’s 14th year and features workshops, masterclasses and concerts.  Full details here.

Waterside Arts Centre – Kokoschka String Quartet: Death and the Maiden.  The Kokoschka String Quartet perform Schubert’s Quartet in D minor.  Tickets £14 / £5 under 16s.  7.30pm.

 

Wednesday 12 November:

Bridgewater Hall – Halle Orchestra.  Sir Mark Elder conducts as the Halle performs the wonderful works of Berlioz (Overture: Le Corsaire), Bizet (Carmen: selection) and Shostakovich (Symphony No. 5).  Tickets £39-£13.  2.15pm.  This programme is also being performed on Thursday 13th November (7.30pm) and Sunday 16th November (7.30pm)

 

Thursday 13 November:

Martin Harris Centre – Quatuor Danel Seminar.  The Quatuor Danel quartet host a workshop of new string quartets by Masters students at the University.  Free entry.  2.30pm.  The day will also feature a lunchtime concert by Quatuor Danel with Richard Whalley featured on piano at 1.10pm (also free!)

 

Friday 14 November:

Royal Northern College of Music – RNCM Symphony Orchestra.  The first public performance by an RNCM student ensemble in the newly re-opened Concert Hall features the RNCM Symphony Orchestra performing Berlioz’s King Lear Overture Op 4 and Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No 3 in C major and Romeo and Juliet.  Clark Rundell and Piero Lombardi Iglesias conduct and Oliver She is featured on piano. Tickets £14.  7.30pm

 

Saturday 15 November:

Bridgewater Hall – BBC Philharmonic presents Chopin and Elgar.  Juanjo Mena conducts and Garrick Ohlsson is featured on piano as the BBC Philharmonid presents Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.1, Elgar’s iconic Symphony No. 2 and Lutoslawski’s Symphonic Variations.  Tickets £37-£12.  7.30pm.
