After releasing her debut album Santhosam in October, Priya Ragu will headline at Manchester’s Night and Day, one of three UK dates.
The Manchester gig comes after a string of European shows which take in Germany, France, Demark, Belgium and Netherlands.
Santhosam contains the singles Vacation, Easy and Black Goose, a song written in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter protests of 2020. The album landed after the critical acclaim for her mixtape damnshestamil which scooped the rising Tamil-Swiss artist a BBC Sound Poll nomination, support from Radio 1, a TV debut on Later … With Jools Holland and breaking artist accolades from MTV, Amazon Music, Spotify, Vevo and Deezer.
Speaking at the time, Priya Ragu said of the 15-track album “The album is my story of finding happiness. It helped me find my purpose in life. Maybe it will help others, too.”
The album takes in a range of subjects from the anger at the killing of George Floyd to calls for freedom, emancipation and peace; to family pressures and reaching your physical limit.
Musically, the album blends R&B, pop, soul, dance beats, disco energy and table rhythms as well as the melodics of Tamil music.
