The Halle’s Pops Concerts are set to launch full throttle into the season this Saturday at the Bridgewater Hall with their Classical Extravaganza.

The Pops Concerts are always a firm favourite amongst Manchester’s classical music fans and this concert by one of the world’s finest orchestras is expected to be no exception, featuring Sibelius’s Finlandia, Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite and Massenet’s Meditation from Thais.  But this is not just a concert for classical fans, as the pieces being performed are instantly recognisable to everybody.

Stephen Bell conducts as the Halle delivers a stunning programme which also features Grieg’s Peer Gynt: Morning and Solveig’s Song, Debussy’s Clair de lune and Rutter’s Suite for Strings: selection.  For a full flavour of what to expect, have a look at the video below.

Tickets for The Halle Orchestra’s Classical Extravaganza at the Bridgewater Hall on 4th October 2014, starting at 7.30pm, start at £19 including booking fee with group discounts and family tickets also available.

October will provide to be a busy month for the Halle as they deliver five further concerts at the Bridgewater Hall as well as a number of concerts as well as wider afield in Leeds, Nottingham and Sheffield.

 

The Manchester concerts:

Thursday 9th October – Sir Mark Elder conducts a rare complete performance of Ravel’s ballet score Daphnis et Chloe as well as Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No 1 featuring Viktoria Mullova on violin;

Wednesday 15th October (2.15pm), Thursday 16th October and Sunday 16th October – the Opus One Concerts see Brahms’ Piano Concerto No 1 and Dvorak’s Symphony No 8 take centre stage;

Thursday 23rd October – Estonian conductor Olari Elts leads a tour through music eras with Strauss’ Intermezzo: Waltz Scene; Chopin’s Piano Concert No 2; Deans Testament – music for Orchestra and Beethoven’s Symphony No 1.  Sunwood Kim is featured on piano.  This concert will also feature a pre-concert event at 6.30pm.
