Pop Icon and multi-million selling artist Rick Astley has announced a full UK Tour for March and April 2016 to coincide with the release of his brand new album.

The singer who has enjoyed a career spanning over 28 years, during which he has sold in excess of 19 million records with a string of eight consecutive top 10s, will perform at the Lowry Theatre on 1 April 2016.

His amazing career began in 1987. Aged just 21, people were shocked by the powerful, mature soulful tone to his voice and the UK sent his debut single Never Gonna Give You Up to the top of the charts within two weeks of its release. The rest of the world soon followed suit with Never Gonna Give You Up reaching Number 1 in 16 other countries including most of Europe, Japan, United States and Australia. The following two years saw Rick continue to dominate the charts around the globe. In the UK, Rick was in the Top 40 every week for the first six months of his career as he celebrated Britain’s largest selling single of that year.

The album Whenever You Need Somebody entered the UK album charts at Number 1 and sold over 15.2 million copies worldwide, making him the top selling British act of the year.  It was a similar success story in the USA, as Rick became one of the few British artists to crack their market.  Rick’s American success was reinforced with a second Number 1 single, Together Forever.  It Would Take a Strong Strong Man became another Top 10 single and the album also reached a position within the Top 10, selling close to 2 million copies.

Shortly after this, Rick decided to leave the music business….only to surprise his British fans 13 years later, with an 8-date tour in 2004.  He performed ‘classic’ songs from past decades, including Sinatra, Bacharach and The Carpenters, as well as a few from his own musical resume.   More dates soon followed.

Since then, Rick has re-discovered his love for playing live, gradually increasing his international gigs and he continues to tour all over the world. As well as a sell-out UK tour in 2012, Rick opened up for Peter Kay’s record breaking ‘The Tour That Does Tour –Tour’ and has performed at numerous large outdoor events and festivals every summer. This will be Rick’s first major UK headline tour in four years.
