Following the recent release of his latest single One Glass, Murdo Mitchell will headline at Manchester’s Lodge at the Deaf Institute.
The Manchester gig is one of five UK dates he will headline.
One Glass marked the latest look at his upcoming EP which is scheduled for release later this year. The track finds Glasgow’s Murdo Mitchell navigating the London lifestyle, through indie-folk, accoustic guitar and strings.
As Murdo Mitchell explains, “Living in London can be fast paced and you can get caught up in feeling you’re doing a lot while doing nothing. You’re constantly out meeting people for drinks etc and you spend a lot of time communicating with others in bars and social situations, which is partly the beauty of London and why I love it so much. But it’s a song for myself. And it’s dedicated to all those who I meet at the bar & chat to after I play the gigs. Sometimes the higher you’re getting the lower you’re going, but I’ll meet you there nonetheless.”
The upcoming EP features both new and old songs which Murdo Mitchell has brought to life on stage, where he feels he is at his strongest. “My strengths are, it’s my rhythm guitar, my acoustic playing, like a kind of troubadour just giving a performance,” Mitchell says. It’s this approach that the self-taught musician believes is at the heart of his music: “it’s how that I write the songs; consider all the classically trained musicians out there, and big respect to them, every one of them is a better musician than I am, but it doesn’t mean they all can write songs and go on tour.”
