Wednesday 13 May:

Royal Northern College of Music – RNCM Jazz Collective: Jazz at the Movies.  The RNCM Jazz Collective presents an evening of popular and instantly recognisable film tunes from the 1930s onwards, featuring the likes of James Bond, The Pink Panther, Rocky and more.  Tickets £10.  7.30pm.

Thursday 14 May:

Manchester Cathedral – Chethams.  Join Chetham’s School of Music students in Music For A While, a free lunchtime concert at Manchester Catherdral.  Recitals will be given by the students and a retiring collection will be held in aid of the Booth Drop-In Centre.  1.10pm.

Bridgewater Hall – The Halle.  The Halle performs Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto Number 4 which will feature Andrew Tyson, winner of the Terence Judd-Halle Orchestra Prize at the 2012 Leeds International Piano Competition.  They will also perform Glinka’s Overture from Ruslan and Ludmilla, an opera which is sadly rarely heard outside Russia.  Jamie Phillips, the Halle’s youngest ever Assistant Conductor leads proceedings.  Tickets £39-£13.  7.30pm.  This concert also takes place on Wednesday 13 May at 2.15pm and Sunday 17 May at 7.30pm.

Friday 15 May:

Bridgewater Hall – BBC Philharmonic: Yan Pascal Tortelier and Olivier Charlier.  Yan Pascal Tortelier conducts as the outstanding violinist Olivier Charlier is featured.  The BBC Philharmonic performs Ravel’s fairy-tale ballet Mother Goose in full, Dutilleux’s Sur la meme accord, Ravel’s Tzigane and Prokofiev’s thrilling, adventurous Symphony No 5 in an evening of contrasting and captivating music.  Tickets £37-£12.  7.30pm.

 

Saturday 16 May:

Royal Northern College of Music – Junior RNCM New Music Day.  The work of Junior RNCM composition students is showcased in a free day of concerts featuring solo and chamber works as well as pieces written for the Junior RNCM New Music Ensemble.  Free.  12.30pm.

Bridgewater Hall – Manchester Camerata: Finale, Fliter and Figaro.  The exceptional pianist Ingrid Fliter returns to perform alongside the Manchester Camerata following a sell out concert back in 2012 and is set to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 2.  The event will also include Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro Overture and final Symphony No 41 ‘Jupiter’ as well as a surprise premiere from Camerata Artists.  Tickets £36-£13.  7.30pm.
