Royal Northern College of Music : RoMania! This free concert sees RNCM students performing a repertoire of violin and piano pieces inspired by Romanian folk music. 6.30pm. Free, no ticket required.

MediaCity Salford : BBC Philharmonic : The BBC Philharmonic performs two pieces by Schubert – Symphony No. 3 in D major and Symphony No. 4 in C minor. Free, but booking required.

Manchester Cathedral : Chetham’s School of Music return to the Cathedral as some of their pianists perform as part of the lunchtime recital series. 1.10pm. Free, no ticket required.

Royal Northern College of Music : Opera Scenes : Another free concert at the RNCM which will have RNCM students from the School of Vocal Studies and Opera performing excerpts from a number of operas. 7.00pm. Free, but ticket required.

Royal Northern College of Music : Zelkova Quartet : The award winning quartet (associates of the European Chamber Music Academy) will be performing Beethoven’s String Quartet in F minor Op 95 ‘Serioso’, Bartok’s String Quartet No 1 and Brahms String Quartet No 2 in A minor. 7.30pm. Tickets £10.

Bridgewater Hall : Sing With The Halle : This is the perfect opportunity for members of the public to join forces with the Halle to perform Mozart’s Requiem Mass. Participants will sing alongside soloists from the Royal Academy of Music and the Halle Choir as well as the Halle Orchestra. Rehearsals will take place during the day and will lead to a public performance at 6.30pm. Booking required to take part via the Bridgewater Hall website – £26. Audience tickets £10.

Martin Harris Centre : RNCM Gold Medal Competition 2014 : Ten of the RNCM’s most outstanding performers will be competing for the RNCM Gold Medal in a series of concerts taking place throughout the day (commencing with the first concert at 10am), culminating in the award in the evening. Entrants include singers, pianists, violinists, saxophonists and more. Free, no ticket required. See here for further information.
