Some stunning performances on this week, with our highlights being …

 

Wednesday 17 September:

Bridgewater Hall – The Halle. The opening of the Halle’s season. Hanna Lintu conducts and Nikolaj Znaider is featured on violin as the Halle perform Prokofiev’s Cinderella ballet scenes, Sibelius’ Violin Concerto and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition (arr Ravel). Tickets £39-13. 2.15pm.  The performance will be repeated at 7.30pm on Thursday 18th September and Sunday 21st September.Tickets £12 adults / £6 children.  7.30pm

 

Thursday 18 September:

Bridgewater Hall – Zelkova Quartet.  Graduates of the RNCM’s prestigious Artists Diploma course Caroline Pether (violin), Simran Singh (violin), Alex Mitchell (viola) and Jonathan Pether (cello) perform Haydn’s Quartet in E flat Op 20 No 1 and Ravel’s Quartet in F major as part of the Manchester Mid-day Concerts Society series which makes its welcome return.  Tickets £9.50, £7.50, £5.  1.10pm.

 

Friday 19 September:

Bridgewater Hall – Souza Winds.  A Free lunchtime concert in the Stalls Foyer featuring Carla Sousa (flute), David Benfield (oboe), Lucy Rugman (clarinet), Lucy Keyes (bassoon) and Jonathan Harris (horn) as the award winning Souza Winds, a group founded in 2005 when its members were studying at the Royal Northern College of Music.  Free, no tickets required.  12.30pm.

 

Saturday 20 September:

Royal Northern College of Music – James Rhodes. Pianist, writer, TV presenter and commentator James Rhodes performs Chopin’s Nocturne Op 48, Scherzo No 2, Ballade No 3, Fantasie Op 49 as well as works by Rachmaninov and Prokofiev in his trademark ‘stand-up style’ offering insights and anecdotes on classical music and his career.  Tickets £18.  7.30pm

Bridgewater Hall – Manchester Camerata featuring Nicola Benedetti.  The 2014/2015 Manchester season is launched with a spectacular performance featuring the incredibly talented Nicola Benedetti, world renowned former young musician of the year (she won aged 16), MBE and 2012 and 2013 Classical BRIT Award winnder (best female).  The repertoire will include Part’s Silouan’s Song ‘My soul yearns after the Lord’, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Concerto in F and Mozart’s Symphony No 36 ‘Linz‘. Tickets £36-£13.  7.30pm
