Monday 15th December:
Royal Northern College of Music – BBC Philharmonic Festive Assortment. An ensemble of BBC Philharmonic musicians perform seasonal classical favourites at the RNCM including Danse of the Mirlitons from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite and Carol of the Bells. The event will also feature a short talk and Q&A session as well as mulled wine and mince pies. Tickets £5 plus booking fee. 2.00pm.
Bridgewater Hall – The Vista Trio. Bridgewater Introducing presents The Vista Trio (Jennifer Dyson on flute, Beatrice Hubble on oboe and Caroline Waddington on clarinet). The ensemble, which formed in 2009 as postgraduate students at the Royal Northern College of Music, will be performing Elgar’s Salut d’Amour, Gerschwin’s Someone to Watch Over Me and Mozart’s Divertimento No 3 amongst others in this free, non-ticketed lunchtime performance. Free. 12.45pm.
Tuesday 16th December:
Royal Northern College of Music – The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments. With instruments including the cittern, nyckelharpa, Hardanger fiddle and hurdy gurdy the Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments celebrates Will Kemp’s accout of his journey from London to Norwich in 1600 (he danced the whole way!) in Nine Daies Wonder – filled with raucous dance tunes and refined music of the Elizabethan age. Tickets from £15. 7.30pm.
Bridgewater Hall – Jason Manford and Guests with The Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra. A night of festive sing-along Christmas fun as Jason Manford and special guests including Russell Watson and Collabro perform Christmas favourites including White Christmas, Winter Wonderland and Jingle Bells accompanied by the Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra and Choir. All profits go to the Children’s Adventure Farm. Tickets £27. 7.30pm.
Friday 19th December:
Bridgewater Hall – The Halle’s Christmas Sing-along. Nick Davies conducts and Elin Manahan Thomas is the featured soprano as The Halle presents a Christmas sing-along including classics such as Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, White Christmas and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Tickets £42-19. 7.30pm.
Saturday 20th December:
Royal Northern College of Music – Salford Choral Society. Conducted by Matthew Hamilton and featuring the Philharmonic Ensemble, the Salford Choral Society present Handel’s Messiah. Tickets £17. 7.30pm
Bridgewater Hall – Halle Youth Orchestra. Jamie Phillips conducts and Nicolas Namoradze is featured on piano as the Halle Youth Orchestra performs Elgar’s Overture: Cockaigne; Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2; Grieg’s Two Elegiac Melodies and Nielsen’s Symphony No 2. Tickets £12. 7.30pm.
