Robbie Cavanagh has shared the first single, Helpless, from his upcoming album which is due out in May.  He will perform a Manchester gig in April ahead of the album’s release.

The Bob Harris Emerging Artist Award recipient has announced that his third studio album Tough Love will land on 26 May 2023.  Helpless marks the first hint at what is to come from the upcoming release.

Speaking about latest track Helpless, Robbie Cavanagh explained, “When I play this song live, I joke that it’s about helping your ex find a new partner, similarly to how you might help find your replacement if you leave a job role. Really though, I suppose it’s about that feeling of desperation when something ends. ‘without you I’d be helpless, but I know you’d be helpless too’ is quite a child-like response to being left. Deflecting I guess. But it’s about the panic that sets in when a situation changes and it’s out of your hands.”

New album Tough Love is five years in the making, following 2017’s To Leave/To Be Left.  That album took on subjects and emotions of loss and self-pity from leaving or being left behind.  Tough Love now promises to be an invigorating reality check full of grit and fuelled by a strong-minded approach to himself and anybody else who may need some tough love.  The album will document his own journey of self-reflection and maturity as a person and songwriter.

Robbie Cavanagh is set to perform at Manchester’s Sacred Trinity Church on 27 April 2023.  He has also recently been revealed as part of the 2023 line-up for The Long Road Festival.
