The Greater Manchester Mind partnership is encouraging people to participate in RED JANUARY to support their mental health.

RED January 2019 is a unique and free, month long community initiative with people across Greater Manchester pledging to kick-start 2019 in the most positive way.

RED January encourage people to get active every day in any way they can.  Whether it’s running, walking to work in a new way, swimming or going for a bike ride, everything counts.  There are no rules or targets and all achievements are celebrated, no matter how small. Just get active every day, your way, whilst raising awareness and support for mental health.

Greater Manchester Mind – RED January 2019

RED January gives people all across Greater Manchester a focus during a characteristically tough month and support for ‘REDers’ is available through the RED January online community.  RED is founded on research that shows physical activity can have a positive impact on mental wellbeing and even reduce symptoms of mental illness such as depression and anxiety.  Mind report that in a post RED January 2018 survey, 87% of participants felt significantly better both physically and mentally after getting active every day.

Anyone wishing to fundraise, can do so for one of Greater Manchester’s five local Minds – Manchester Mind; Mind in Salford; Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind; Rochdale and District Mind; Stockport and District Mind. The money raised supports vital work in their local communities, supporting mental health services.  It helps to ensure people experiencing a mental health problem get the help and respect they deserve.
