Manchester Camerata are bringing the popular UpClose series to Home Manchester with special performances by Sven Helbig and Aziz Ibrahim.
The series will see events by exceptional performers and ensembles in new intimate spaces.
Award-winning producer of the titans of popular music, including Pet Shop Boys and Snoop Dogg, Sven Helbig (pictured above) will present the premiere of Pocket Symphonies, with visual artist Chris Paul Daniels providing exhilarating motion graphics to compliment the music. Presented in Home’s main gallery on Saturday 9 September, Helbig will use his know-how to perfectly distil the grandiosity of classical music into pocket symphonies, followed by a post-concert Q&A also including Paul Daniels.
Speaking of the event, Sven Helbig commented, “I am looking forward to one of my highlights this year – presenting my Pocket Symphonies with the outstanding ensemble of Manchester Camerata. I am sure the inspiring creativity of video artist Chris Daniels will give the 12 pieces a new, fascinating life.”

On Wednesday 11 October, Home’s Theatre 1 will be hosting the pioneering #DesiGuitR sound of Aziz Ibrahim, backed by Camerata. The night will offer a radical orchestral interpretation of original compositions and the unreleased album Lahore to Longsight, charting the journey of Aziz’s father from a divided India to Pakistan to Manchester, and the path of self-identity and acceptance for a son torn between vastly different cultures. Ibrahim brings with him special guests Dalbir Singh Rattan (tabla/vocals), Kavi Raj Singh (Santoor/vocals) from Project70 Asian Blues, Ibrahim’s Arts Council England musical project on Partition and Identity. There will be a pre-concert talk with Ibrahim and friends at 6.30pm.
Aziz Ibrahim added: “I never thought a British Pakistani kid from #LongsightM13 would ever be able to write and perform with an orchestra, let alone the Manchester Camerata. Dream come true!”
