Madi Diaz will support Kacey Musgraves at Manchester’s O2 Apollo next week, following the recent release of her new album Weird Faith.
The Manchester gig is one of seven UK dates she is playing.
Weird Faith landed in February. The album found Madi Diaz grappling how to write about romance or love without oversentimentality and insincerity. For Diaz, the answer was to explore how anxiety-inducing, if not downright humiliating falling in love can be. Weird Faith answers these questions bluntly, and Diaz says the record “chronicles a new relationship, but also a new relationship to myself.”
“After being really burned by love – maybe relentlessly burned by it – the album is about being brave and trying again” she adds. “Doing it differently. It’s in our nature to try to be brave like that. You see the car crash coming. Maybe it won’t happen, but you’re bracing for it anyway.”
Madi Diaz has been making records and writing songs professionally since the late 2000s, but it wasn’t until she released 2021’s History Of A Feeling that she felt the glare of wider notoriety. That album brought on solo tours, support slots with Waxahatchee and Angel Olsen, arena and stadium shows and television debuts.
