Manchester dance company, Company Chameleon, will perform a trio of pop-up dance performances in Manchester City Centre on Thursday 13 and Saturday 15 September.

The trio of shows will include the UK premiere of a new male and female duet and will include a performance in The Foundation Coffee House as well as outside HOME and in St Ann’s Square.

Company Chameleon will be taking the opportunity to premiere Amaranthine.  Pronounced am-a-ran-thine, the routine is a magnetic short dance piece, which tells the story of two people who are deeply in love and also in conflict.  One of Company Chameleon’s outdoor works, the piece has been choreographed to be adapted and performed in all sorts of different spaces.

Exploring a male and female relationship,  Amaranthine follows a couple in conflict as they desperately try to reconnect and find resolution.  Intricate and emotionally charged, the pushes and pulls of disagreement and heated argument are felt, as is the appreciation of space, understanding and eventually, acceptance.

Combining a rich mix of dance styles, the movement is both powerful and risk taking, drawing from an amalgamation of dance techniques including contemporary dance, b-boying, capoeira and partner work.

The first pop up and the UK premiere of  Amaranthine takes place at The Foundation Coffee House in the Northern Quarter on Thursday 13 September, 6:15pm, providing the perfect after-work treat for people who fancy a drink and a little culture after a day’s work.

The second and third performances take place outside on Saturday 15 September. At 1pm, Chameleon will be dancing across Tony Wilson Square at First Street, and following on at 3pm, they will be surprising Saturday shoppers with a pop-up at St Ann’s Square.

Speaking about hitting the streets of Manchester, Co-Artistic Director of Company Chameleon, Kevin Edward Turner, commented, “We always love to premiere our work at home in Manchester. This work will go to lots of different festivals both nationally and internationally, so for us it’s important we show the work in our community first.  It will be great to share the piece with audiences at home before we take it on the road and take it out there. … The great thing about our outdoor work is that it has been designed to be performed in many different contexts.  When performed the work transforms the space that it is in and for audiences creates a more unexpected and memorable experience.”

Amaranthine is a joint choreography by Kevin Edward Turner and Navala ‘Niku’ Chaudhari. The piece will be performed by Theo Fapohunda and Juliana Javier, Company Dancers at Chameleon, who will bring to life the narrative of the piece to an original score by composer, Miguel Marin.
