Backyard Cinema will bring their screenings of Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 Romeo+Juliet to the north-west for the first time, accompanied by a live band and choir.

More than 100,000 fans have witnessed the screenings in London and now an exclusive week of screenings will land at Manchester’s Albert Hall.

The move soundtrack will be brought to life with a live band and 12-piece choir performing before the film, during the interval and after the screenings with tracks to include Young Hearts Run Free, Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good) and When Doves Cry.

The Grade II listed Manchester building with be made all the more atmospheric with candlelight across the grand and ornate chapel.

With Manchester featuring on various 2024 ‘Greatest City’ lists within the likes of New York Times and National Geographic, and with a unique music and cultural history, Backyard Cinema were keen to return to their northern home from home having found the perfect setting for Romeo+Juliet.  Previously they entertained over 50,000 immersive cinema fans during their Christmas season on the roof of Depot Mayfield, playing classics such as Elf and Home Alone. Summer 2023 welcomed the Miami Beach pop-up, bringing the beach to Manchester with interactive shows including Barbie on the Beach, Super Sing a longs & Dirty Dancing Beach Parties.
