A weekend of climate themed screenings at Manchester Museum, with films to suit everyone.  Watch some serious and some not so serious films and documentaries that tackle the issues of a changing climate.
Some screenings might not be suitable for all audiences.

COWSPIRACY: The Sustainability Secret

Tale of 2 Cities Exhibition

Tale of Two Cities is England’s Grow Wild Flagship project based in Manchester and Liverpool. Community, innovation and inspiration are is at the heart of this project. See images of the meadows and other pieces of art created since the project began.

Animal Kingdoms – Stereoscopic images talk
Thursday 22 September, 6-7.30pm
Artist Jim Naughten has brought a mesmersing collection of natural history images to life in three dimensions, using stereoscopic photography to Manchester Museum.  Join Denis Pellerin, the London Stereoscopic Society who will explore the history of stereoscopic images, and take you a trip into time and space to see for yourself how Victorians discovered a whole new world through stereoscopic photography.

Urban Naturalist
Sunday 25 September, 2-4pm
Friendly, practical workshops run by leading naturalists. From wild food-foraging and composting to bird song and insect identification, explore biodiversity on our doorstep.
Join Henry McGhie Head of Collections at Manchester Museum and keen ornithologist as he explores Manchester’s birds: changes over two centuries in relation to pollution and climate change.

Science Uncovered Manchester
European Researchers Night at Manchester Museum

What is it?
Friday 30 September is European Researcher’s night and for the second time Manchester Museum will be hosting Science Uncovered Manchester – a spectacular night showcasing Manchester’s finest researchers and their work for an adult audience. There’ll be research on show, music, drinks and a lively atmosphere. Our participation in Science Uncovered event is funded by the Natural History Museum, who have hosted this event successfully for several years in London and Tring. European Researcher’s Night is a Europe wide initiative, in which thousands of researchers all across Europe meet the public and share their work in a social setting.

When the newly crowned Queen Elsa accidentally uses her power to turn things into ice to curse her home in infinite winter, her sister, Anna, teams up with a mountain man, his playful reindeer, and a snowman to change the weather condition.

Baby Explorers

Baby Explorers is an interactive story and sensory play session. Specially devised stories, inspired by the Museum’s collections, include music, songs, props and real objects, supported by a range of playful sensory resources for babies to explore. Sessions take place in the Nature Discovery gallery, floor 1.

Live music and songs inspired by our collections, supported by a range of playful sensory resources for babies to explore. A space to play, share and discover together. Please note that Baby Explorer sessions are approximately 45 minutes long with tidy up time between each session. Sessions take place in the Nature Discovery gallery, floor 1.

Magic Carpet
Friday 30 September, 10.30-11.30am & 11.30am-12.30pm
Magic Carpet is an interactive, creative, story making and activity session that forms connections to the Museum’s collections. Stories are specially devised to enable the youngest visitors to explore collections. They include songs, active rhymes and movement and opportunities to discover and handle real museum objects. They are also supported by a range of tactile resources to promote sensory play and exploration. Come along, make new friends, play and explore.                                                                         Please note that Magic Carpet sessions are approximately 45 minutes long with tidy up time between each session.
Sessions take place on the galleries or in the Discovery Centre rooms.

Autism Friendly Early Opening
Saturday 10 September, 9.15-10.30am
See, Make and Do at the Museum
Early openings at the Museum aimed at children who have autism and other needs, along with their families and carers, and siblings.
Activities take place before the Museum opens to the general public and there will be a quiet room available too. See objects, do activities & make creations inspired by one of the Museum’s galleries. A different gallery will be open at each early opening.
In September the Fossils Gallery where Stan the T-Rex lives will be open earlier. Second Saturday of every month.
Drop-in, free. Autism Friendly: suitable for children and young people aged 5-16 with a parent or carer and siblings welcome

Big Saturday: South Asia
Saturday 24 September, 11am –4pm
A day of discovery and exploration for all ages. September’s Big Saturday will take you to South Asia.  Find out more about the environment of South Asia and cultural traditions.  See objects from the Museum’s collections and learn more about South Asian art, history, music and dance.
