Royal Northern College of Music. The winners of the various RNCM Chamber Music prizes throughout the year compete for the Christopher Rowland RNCM Chamber Ensemble of the Year Award. 7.30pm. Tickets £9.

Tuesday 1 July

Manchester Cathedral. Chetham’s Sinfonia and Ensembles perform. The concert will feature student ensembles including the Wind Band and Saxophone Choir as well as soloist Jackie Campbell (piano). 7.30pm. £10/£4.

 

Wednesday 2 July

MediaCityUK. The BBC Philharmonic, conducted by Andrew Gourlay, performs Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10 in E minor. 2.00pm. Free but tickets required.

 

Thursday 3 July

Bridgewater Hall. The London Sinfonietta featuring Jonny Greenwood (guitarist for Radiohead), Jonathan Morton (violin) and Synergy Vocals perform the hour-long ‘Music for 18 Musicians’ as well as Reich’s Clapping Music, Electric Counterpoint and Violin Phase. 7.30pm. Tickets from £15.

 

Saturday 5 July

Bridgewater Hall. The Halle presents ‘Oscars for Orchestra’ – featuring some of the best known and most popular movie songs of all time, including Williams’ Star Wars; Shore’s Symphonic Suite from The Lord of the Rings, Jarr’s Overture from Lawrence of Arabia and Zimmer’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – this is a concert for the whole family. 7.30pm. Tickets from £16.

Lowry Theatre. Opera North present’s Wagner’s Gotterdammerung. Der Ring des Nibelungen comes to its dramatic conclusion during this epic showing starting at 3.30pm and running to 10.00pm with two intervals. There is also a pre-show talk at 2.30. The performance is sung in German with English subtitles. Tickets from £19
