Royal Northern College of Music : Donizetti’s tragic, and at the time contraversial, opera Maria Stuarda takes stage and depicts the Tudor-time struggle between Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots. Tickets £18.

Bridgewater Hall : John Lill CBE continues his relentless performance of all 32 of Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas, this time performing Op.10 No.1 in C minor; Op.28 in D ‘Pastoral’; Op.79 in G; and Op.110 in A-flat. Tickets from £15.

Royal Northern College of Music : Scottish folk duo Twelfth Day (Catriona Price – fiddles and vocals; and Esther Swift – harp and vocals) perform at the RNCM to showcase their latest studio album The Devil Makes Three (due to be released shortly). £12.

Martin Harris Centre : The Manchester University Music Society Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensembles take over the Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall to perform pieces by Thompson; Pierne; Francaix; Beethoven; Bruch and Schubert.

Royal Northern College of Music : The Opera Scenes performances continue in this free show as RNCM students of vocal studies and opera perform excerpts from a variety of operas. A further show take place on Friday 13 June. Free admission, but ticket required.
