The original line up of The Soup Dragons have announced a Manchester gig as part of a run of six UK dates.

The band will open their UK tour with a date at Manchester Academy 2.

Sean Dickson, Ross Sinclair, Sushil K Dade and Jim McCulloch are returning to play their back to basics effervescent guitar pop on an autumn tour.  The tour marks a return to the live stage after an absence of over 30 years for the original line-up.

The Soup Dragons had huge success with their hit indie anthem I’m Free, landing MTV award nominations and Top 20 records in the US.

They finally reactivated their RAW TV PRODUCTS record label in 2022 and released their compilation album Raw TV Products (Singles and Rarities 1985-88), focusing on their pre-I’m Free years.  The album landed The Soup Dragons a Top 5 hit and stoked enthusiasm for the band, inspiring them to head back to the live stage.

The Soup Dragons were leading lights in the so-called C-86 Music Scene – named after an NME produced cassette compilation of bands that were all coming through at the same time. It was a musical hotch-potch of different styles and genres but for the band it was an ideal springboard to get their irresistibly melodic punky pop music out into the mainstream.

“We were all teenagers at the time!”, recalls lead singer Sean Dickson, “we hit the ground running and basically made it up as we went along…we didn’t follow the rules then and we still don’t.”

“We’re aiming to capture the energy and sound of those early records” states guitarist Jim McCulloch“ and to do what we did best-playing live and loud!”
