Historic pub and restaurant The Black Friar will celebrate its second birthday this month with a huge giveaway.

In addition to a special £22 menu, the restaurant will give away more than £72,000 worth of scratch card prizes.

The Grade II listed pub reopened in 2021 after a restoration project.  The pub originally dates back more than 200 years, originally known as the School Inn which was burned down.  It was renamed the Black Friar when it was rebuilt in 1886, open continuously until 2021 when it was burned down for a second time.  Now the team at the independent venue are celebrating their anniversary with the giveaway.

During the Black Friar’s birthday month every visitor will receive a free instant win scratch card with their bill, giving them the chance to win prizes including free meals on the spot, free cocktails, or vouchers giving the winner between £10-£200 off their next visit.

Both drinkers and diners will receive a scratch card each per visit, so are guaranteed to win one of the mega prizes on offer. The total prize value across the month is over a whopping £72,000, with the scratch cards available from 1st August for the whole month.

From 1st August, The Black Friar will also offer a special new birthday menu curated by award-winning Chef Ben Chaplin and his team. Continuing the theme of two, the Birthday Menu will be priced at £22 for 2 courses and will be available all day every Monday, and 12-6pm Tuesday-Friday.  The new menu will feature a selection of a la carte and pub grub dishes including Pig’s Head Croquette with Curried Apple, Spinach and Seitan Cannelloni, Katsu Chicken Schnitzel, Eton Mess and Lime & Chocolate Tart.

The Black Friar will feature live local musicians every Tuesday evening this summer. The award-winning Garden is open every sunny day, whilst the fully covered outdoor Tavern remains open for drinks daily.
