The Halle have announced that the award nominated actor Samuel West will join them on stage at the Bridgewater Hall to perform the role of Edward Elgar in their performance of Beyond the Score: Elgar’s Enigma Variations.
The performance for which the star of ITV’s Mr Selfridge will join them, explores the man behind one of the world’s most famous classical works.
Samuel West previously appeared with The Halle as the narrator on their 2013 recording of Britten to America and will now join the entire orchestra and a cast of performances at the Bridgewater Hall on 11 March for a performance which forms part of The Halle’s Elgar Festival.
Beyond the Score uses the full orchestra, film, projected images, performers, semi-staging and a narrator, all alongside the Hallé’s Music Director Mark Elder to explore and bring to life this iconic piece of music. The event will give a fascinating insight into Elgar, the man, his wife, friends, social circle and perhaps even the enigmatic code itself!
After the interval there will be a complete performance of Elgar’s Enigma Variations.
Beyond the Score: Elgar’s Enigma Variations is performed by The Halle at the Bridgewater Hall on Saturday 11 March 2017.
