Murdo Mitchell is set to head out on tour to coincide with the release of his latest single Aztec Jewel.  He will headline a Manchester gig at YES, with the tour opening a few days earlier at Liverpool’s Kazimier.

The track marks the lead single and title track of his EP which lands on 14 April.

The single and EP follow on from a flurry of releases in 2022 which included Lies, Jaded and Your Skin.

The lead single sets the tone for the EP with an emotional intensity which marries his honest vulnerable lyricism with bold guitar riffs.

Mitchell explains of the track, “Aztec Jewel is probably the most middle of the road song I’ve written but it just felt like it should go that way and so sometimes when you write a song you just have to go where the song takes you rather than fighting hard with it and trying to pull it into something that it’s not. It’s a song that rises and rises – when writing it I imagined my full band in a room all just jamming it out round after round & I’m sure that’s the feeling you’ll get when you listen to it in the last section.

“I was fortunate enough to record this record with Chris Bond, who is responsible for some of my favourite records & when I went to his studio in Devon we got on great and we worked well together – we picked the song apart & the song was initially something that grew and took new forms. From the first demo to where it ended up are quite different – it just took a whole new journey that just felt undeniable.

“One of my favourites to play live. I hope you enjoy it. Cheers.”
