Canadian shoegaze outfit No Joy have released their latest single Bits, taken from the upcoming album Bugland. Accompanied by a visualiser directed by Jeremy Dabrowski, the track blends dreamy textures with gritty undertones and follows the band’s signature genre-melding sound. The single arrives ahead of a six-date UK run this October, including a stop at YES Basement in Manchester on 15 October.
Speaking about the track, Jasamine White-Gluz explained, “The original demo was built around me blowing out my guitar distortion using the EarthQuaker Devices Bit Commander guitar pedal. Thematically, I wanted to capture the feeling of running through tall grass, playing hide and seek behind big trees.”
The spoken word section at the end of the song includes excerpts from a letter White-Gluz wrote in 1994 as a child, defending Courtney Love.
The new album Bugland is No Joy’s first in five years and marks a new creative chapter, co-produced with experimental artist Fire-Toolz. Of the collaboration, Fire-Toolz said, “The collaboration really felt limitless. I could easily relate to it because Jasamine and I liked a lot of the same music, and I was able to be creative in ways that were freeing as if I was making my own album.”
The
No Joy will release the eight-track Bugland on 8 August 2025 via Sonic Cathedral and Hand Drawn Dracula.
