Jools to Headline at Gullivers Ahead of Debut Album Violent Delights
Jools have announced details of their debut album Violent Delights which lands shortly after a Manchester gig at Gullivers. The UK punk collective have built a reputation for their high-energy performances and will take the stage as part of their spring tour, leading up to the release of their debut album Violent Delights on Friday 6 June via Hassle Records.
As well as confirming their debut album release, Jools have also shared their new single Mother Monica.
Jools have quickly established themselves as a compelling force in UK punk, with Violent Delights set to explore themes of addiction, religion, overwhelming obsession, isolating abandonment, identity and sexual violence. The album promises to fuse elements of metal, rap, post-hardcore, and hip-hop, underpinning its post-punk foundation. Recorded with producer Lewis Johns at The Ranch studio, the record serves as both an anthology of personal stories and a celebration of overcoming hardship.
The band’s latest single Mother Monica draws on vocalist Kate Price’s experiences of growing up around religion. “We’d spoken about the constant, underlying feeling of guilt and need to be ‘good’ that can sometimes come with being brought up Catholic” explains vocalist Kate Price. “For us, that eventually manifested in a need to be rebellious. The hook of the chorus comes from a prayer by St Augustine, who was known for being excessive and sinful in his youth, and asked God to make him good, but just not yet. Mother Monica is our version of that prayer.” The album also features previous single Guts, which received strong support from BBC Radio One and tastemakers such as Kerrang! and DIY.
