Jon Allen has shared his new single White Gold which features on upcoming new album Seven Dials.

The new track delivers a sound which embraces folk rock, roots and al-country.  The track itself throws back to 18th century London and the underground sugar trade of the time – entrepreneurship, plotting and desperation.

As Jon Allen explained, “The song’s title refers to the slang name given to sugar, a valuable commodity in 18th century London. Often illicitly precured and traded as currency on the thriving black market. I wanted to capture the allure and danger of chasing something you know might destroy you. ‘White Gold’ is a metaphor for desire, addiction, and the extremes we go to for escape or a fleeting sense of freedom. It’s about living on the edge – where the stakes are high, and every moment feels like a gamble. This song reflects both the intoxicating highs and the inevitable crash, a bittersweet dance with something you can’t quite let go of.”

New album Seven Dials is expected to feature a string of narratives embracing the struggles of the old Seven Dials area – once a dilapidated slum which eventually became a sought after area filled with coffee houses and upmarket shops.  It is set to image the one time struggles of the area – desperation and poverty, completing with scheming and criminality as well as the emotions which come in to play.

Jon Allen will release Seven Dials on 2 May 2025.
