Los Angeles indie-pop artist Hana Vu will headline at Manchester’s Deaf Institute Lodge in August.
The artist starting making music whilst at high school. She has originally start herself to play the guitar whilst listening to alternative rock. Then aged 14 Hana Vu began to keep a journal of bedroom pop experiments on Bandcamp. Across a series of self-releases she developed her sound.
It was her 2018 single Crying On The Subway which marked a breakthrough though. The track caught the attention of Gorilla vs. Bear who released her self-produced debut EP How Many Times Have You Driven By. She was quickly picking up plaudits and media praise. A double EP then followed in 2019 titled Nicole Kidman / Anne Hathaway; as did live spots alongside Soccer Mommy, Nilufer Yanya, Courtney Barnett and more.
She subsequently signed with Ghostly International, releasing her 2021 album Public Storage. The album found her working alongside a co-producer for the first time in Jackson Phillips. Continuing what is becoming a strong output of releases, she then shared her Parking Lot EP in 2022 and her second album Romanticism in 2024.
