Off the back of releasing the deluxe version of his album Growing Up On The Internet, Noahfinnce headed to Manchester’s New Century Hall.
The Manchester gig marks the first time the artist has headlined in Manchester for two years – something he acknowledges with a wry sense of guilt. But for the fans who have made their way to New Century Hall, it’s well worth the wait as he shows just why he’s building up an undeniable fanbase.
From the outset it’s apparent just how much of a connection there is between Noahfinnce and the fans. They hang on his every lyric, chord and word; and equally he’s feeding off the energy they are bringing. It’s an almost symbiotic relationship.
Of course, we have to give huge credit to South Arcade and Taylor Acorn who opened the gig. Both delivered outstanding sets, priming the audience perfectly. In fact, it wasn’t lost on anybody that South Arcade announced that they will return to Manchester for a gig at Manchester Academy in March (tickets on sale this Friday) – and it’s fair to say that there’s be a clamour for tickets based on their reception here.
Noahfinnce’s set is almost relentless. After an introductory montage featuring soundbites from the likes of Friends, Harry Potter and the recent Australian announcement of a social media ban for under-16s, he arrives on stage to a huge cheer. He sets the pace from the outset and there’s barely any let up as he delivers tracks from Growing Up On The Internet. Every song strikes a chord with the audience. It’s all hugely relatable lyrically as ee looks to break through stigmas, sings about rights, equality, mental health and acceptance; whilst the pop-punk is sonically addictive. The first sign of a let up comes over half way through the set with the very brief respite of the opening of Tell Me That You’re Okay (which has the fans erupting), before the pace picks up again. Lovely Ladies and recent release Headcase are huge winners.
Throughout, he continues to bounce off the audience. He’s filled with energy, all over the stage, with a smile fixed to his face throughout – and quite simply puts on a great set.
… of course, we grabbed the pics from the pit.
