We headed to Retro to catch Intake as they launch their new single Calling Me with a headline gig.
They deliver a tight and energetic set. It’s spot on throughout with guitars, drums and bass remaining on point.
There a palpable intensity to the set and lead singer Alex pushes his guitars to the limit breaking several strings during the course of the set, eventually borrowing a guitar from one of the outstanding support bands. And the crowd is just as enthusiastic and committed as the band are on stage – responding to every track. And there are plenty of shifts and swings – moving from hard-hitting to more melodic material and even bringing a saxophonist on stage to join them briefly.
They even throw in a cover of Iris, much heavier than the original, but delivered with just as much power and clarity. It’s a much covered track, but this is certainly one which does it justice.
As the set reaches its climax they perform previous single Flowers (I Saw Her) and then launch the single, Calling Me. The end of the track is greeted with shouts from the audience of ‘one more song’ and they obliged.
It’s been a powerful, sometimes grungy, sometimes melodic, riff-laden set … and, of course, we grabbed the pics …
