Bex has shared a new two-track mini mixtape with a music video for lead track politix set to land tonight.
The music feature features the debut of BIG BEX mascots who will be hitting the road with her.
Speaking about the track and video, Bex explained, “BIG BEX and I are not happy with this country’s politix and this is the start of our bigger fight. Together we are stronger – BIG BEX is the representation of our side… in a world that wishes for free speech, everything we say is wrong. Everything we do is wrong. We can’t afford to live in this planet of destruction. We are controlled by the media. It’s time to fight back. It’s time to be real people again. It’s time to play the system and think for ourselves.”
“politix is a love song to The SCUM Club,” says BEX, referring to her dedicated legion of followers. “It’s 4 everyone who has ever supported my journey through this wild industry that’s built upon broken politics. The SCUM Club are the ones who are there for me, they catch me when I jump and they pick me up when I fall. This world is broken, with so much corruption rife. We can only work together to make our change, whether that be big or small. When we take the seriousness out of this corrupt world, we find ourselves at gigs, moshing, sweating, screaming, bonding. This track is about those moments, where you forget the trauma, the troubles and the hate, it’s about that hour in the pit. Where strangers become friends. It is the most intimate moment, the love we have for music and to share that together in a sea of sweat and strangers; bodies clashing, arms waving, tears falling, smiles raising. politix is a song for anyone who wishes they were heard but, when they are not, they distract themselves in the pit.
politix is accompanied on the mixtape by we’ll never b like u. The second track also focuses heavily on a sense of community that’s so dear to BEX’s heart. She says it’s “about our scene – we are growing this together. We are a group of people who share interests and lifestyles. We are the same, but we are not like everybody else. We have built our world. We may be misunderstood, they may think of us as crazy, but to each other, we are normal. We find each other in the pit, we help each other through the darkness. At the end of the day, we only have each other; we may not be blood, but we are family. The second verse explores the feeling of our world being turned into a trend, something I noticed a lot over lockdown and the birth of TikTok. Our scene became popular, it became ‘normal’. The creativity started to die as evil brands such as Shein started mainstreaming our style. Our secret world, our safe place, became everyone’s; it started to get destroyed, it began to lose authenticity, and people who didn’t get it pretended to get it. As gatekeepers become widespread, there is a divide in what we once knew as ours. we’ll never b like u is about the popularising of our world, the damage it does, the way it makes us feel. We are not a trend, we are not normal, we are not the same, and we will never be like you.”
An expanded version of the mixtape is available exclusive on CD featuring the previously released crybaby and demo versions of the unreleased tracks heavy punk song and like it like that. The CD is accompanied by a zine made by Bex.
Across the summer Bex will play at a string of festivals including Rebellion Festival in Blackpool which takes place 7-10 August.
