Amplifier will release their eighth studio album, Gargantuan, in April ahead of a Manchester gig.

Amplifier will headline at Aatma, Manchester, one of 17 UK dates they have announced.

New album Gargantuan marks the prog rock band’s eighth studio album, and now finds them opening a new chapter as a duo.  It also promises to find Amplifier returning to their roots.

The album was formed through late-night jams in a secluded Sussex smithy.  It will find Amplifier taking a journey through their evolution, reflecting on the past and looking to the future.  It was recorded using a headphone-based approach.

Speaking about the album’s formation and feel, Amplifier’s Sel Balamir said, “In good conscience, I could hardly go there and fire up a Marshall stack at 2 am.  Matt [Brobin] plays louder and harder than anyone else I know, so we irresistibly ended up going down the route of pure electricity.”

“If you look at the back catalog, it’s very varied” adds Balamir when discussing the various soundscapes which feature on the release.  “The band has never been tied into one thing… We’ve never fitted into any of those moments. But that’s good – don’t be wiped out by the asteroid.”

Amplifier release Gargantuan on 4 April 2025.
