Tuesday 7 October:

Royal Northern College of Music – Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers.  One of the most successful touring taiko drum groups brings the imposing and magnificent drums to the stage, combining the outstand physical accomplishment of the drumming with choreography, lighting and post-apocalyptic imagery to create the ultimate energetic drumming experience. Tickets £20. 8pm.

 

Wednesday 8 October:

Chetham’s School of Music – Gitte Marcusson Flute Masterclass.  International flute totor and founder of the flute school Nordic Flute, Gitte Marcusson, gives a two hour public flute masterclass.  Tickets £5 (£4 concessions).  2.30pm.

Palace Theatre – Swan Lake.  The English National Ballet performs Tchaikovsky’s classic Swan Lake, telling of Prince Siegfried’s love for the Swan Queen Odette, the manipulative Odile and the battle with the sorcerer Rothbart.  Ticket prices vary from £6.90 – £43.90.  Showings: Weds 7.30pm; Thurs 2pm and 7.30pm; Fri 7.30pm; Sat 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

 

Thursday 9 October:

Royal Northern College of music – RNCM Brand New Orchestra.  New works for the symphony orchestra by RNCM composition students are performed in this free workshop performance.  7.30pm.

Manchester Cathedral – Music For A While.  A free lunchtime recital by Chetham’s students with a retiring collection in aid of the Booth Drop-In Centre.  Free, no ticket required.  1.10pm.

 

Saturday 11 October:

Bridgewater Hall – BBC Philharmonic.  The BBC Philharmonic performs the works of Sibelius (Rakastave, The Lover), Nielsen (Clarinet Concerto) and Shostakovich (Symphony No. 4).  John Storgards conducts and Sabine Meyer is featured on clarinet.  Tickets from £12-£27.  7.30pm
